Say hello to Michelle + Alex. Since day one, they captured our modern vintage hearts. From the location to the lace details, our hearts sang every chance we got to design this wedding. High school sweethearts who would date through college, they both knew from a very young age they were meant to be. The way Michelle looks at Alex, and how Alex adores Michelle from afar, you know these two souls share one burning flame.

The venue location was very important for M+A. They wanted something to different. A space that had character and reflected their love and creativity. Once they both took a walk through the botanical gardens of Snug Harbor in NYC, they knew they had found their wedding venue! (Geeky side note: Snug Harbor used to be a retirement community of sailors. Be still our Jersey Shore wedding planner hearts! By the turn of the 20th Century, Snug Harbor became one of the richest charitable institutions in the United States and a self-sustaining community composed of a working farm! So cool. You can read more on their site.)

Michelle + Alex both had visions of a beautiful outdoor space enjoying the stars under the warm June sky for their NYC wedding. But, mother nature had other plans. In true elegance, Michelle welcomed the rain and we prepped for all scenarios. The Dee Kay Events team made sure all the proper back-ups were in a place, especially with our signature special emergency day kit, and Michelle made sure she put in the special umbrella order. An awesome team effort all around!

Michelle + Alex remembered one simple thing: the only thing that matters on their wedding day is that they end up married. Rain or shine, it was still a celebration of love. I mean, seriously guys, look at how they look at each other.

The best part about the whole day was creating this massive dessert table for over 200 of M+A’s guests. The color palette included soft blushes and yellows accented with soft grey, which we highlighted by lots of vanilla icing, yellow lollipops, and flower accents including white peonies and yellow delphinium. I give crazy props to the Dee Kay Events team on this design because it took a lot of goodies in boxes and climbing stairs to make this masterpiece complete. (Read: Thank you, Vedran, Chris & Kathleen!) Also, a tremendous effort from one of our favorite bakers Sugarush in Red Bank. Everything was perfect and delicious!

The true icing on the cake was a beautifully choreographed dance that Michelle + Alex practiced for months. They didn’t tell anyone and surprised all of their guests with a sweet dance to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus called Your Guardian Angel. We had goosebumps the entire time. The strum of the guitar and the following lyrics melted us through and through:

“I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven”

Did we mention the bride created her own paperie for the event? Yeap. It was amazing!

We loved getting to know Michelle + Alex and we are so blessed to call them both friends. We caught up with Michelle a couple of weeks ago over brunch. After a couple of mimosas, we decided we should plan a big party all over again. Not sure how keen Alex will be on learning a dance again. 😉
